Issue Position: Universal Basic Income

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

"If elected, I pledge to introduce legislation that can be passed by the House, Senate and signed into law by the President in the first quarter of 2021 that transparently funds and guarantees a Universal Basic Income (UBI) for the citizens of the United States of America, at a rate which covers basic human needs in an effort to eliminate poverty, while building a robust national economy."

This is the pledge I have made as a member of the UBI Caucus a collective of individuals that believe that Universal Basic Income is a necessity of the future. In the richest country in the world there is no reason that our capitalist system should start individuals out at $0. Heck even in Monopoly you get $200 for passing GO that's more than you get in real life.

We all acknowledge that it takes money to make money and the most effective tool we have to combat poverty would be to put money directly in the hands of those who need it the most.

As someone inspired to run for Congress by Andrew Yang I 100% support his Policy proposal of a Freedom Dividend paid for by using a method of taxation called a VAT.

I don't believe in reinventing the wheel. Take a look at his detailed proposal here.
